COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE NIGERIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (NMA) AT THE END OF HER 54TH ANNUAL GENERAL CONFERENCE AND DELEGATES MEETING (AGC/ADM) TAGGED “EDO 2014â€Â HELD AT BEST WESTERN HOMEVILLE HOTEL, BENIN CITY, EDO STATE FROM 27TH APRIL TO 4TH MAY 2014.
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) held her 54th Annual General Conference and Delegates Meeting at the Best Western Homeville Hotel, Benin City Edo State from Sunday 27th April to Sunday 4th May, 2014. The theme of the Conference was “Healthcare Delivery and National Development: A critical Appraisal in Nigeria’s 100 years’ existenceâ€Â.
Over 700 Medical and Dental Practitioners from the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, the diaspora, guests and dignitaries attended the Edo 2014 conference.
The Annual General Conference and delegates meeting was kicked off with a robust a 3 day National Medical Mission/Outreach from Monday April 28th to Wednesday 30th April 2014 at three Senatorial districts of Edo State. During these outreach more than 1000 patients were treated free of Charge with over 60 surgeries performed.
The opening ceremony of the conference was held on Friday 2nd May 2014 and was chaired by His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, represented by the Honourable Minister of Health, Prof. C.O Onyebuchi Chukwu who declared the Conference open.
Attendance at the opening ceremony includes, Dr. Alhassan Haliru, Hon. Minister of State for Health, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, Delta State Governor ably represented by Dr. J.S. Otuamara, His Royal Majesty Oba of Benin ably represented by his High Chiefs, President of the World Medical Association (WMA) Dr. Margaret Mungherera, Dr. Jacob Akoh, President of the Medical Association of Nigerians Across Great Britain (MANSAG).
The guest lecture on the conference theme was delivered by Prof. Shima Gyoh. The sub theme lectures were on Current Management of Maxillofacial Trauma: Recent Advances in Trauma & Orthopaedic Practice in Nigeria and Innovations in Healthcare Infrastructure Financing and Health Insurance. These were delivered by erudite scholars at the Scientific Session at the Continuing Medical Education/Continuing Professional Development which took place comprehensively on Thursday 1st May and Friday 2nd May, 2014.
The association also held her National Executive Council (NEC) meeting and Annual Delegates Meeting (ADM) where New National Officers that will run the affairs of the association for the next two years were elected.

The conference ended with Gala/Award Dinner.
