COMMUNIQUE: Medical and Dental consultants Association of NIgeria, Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, Ebonyi State

Posted on: Tue 19-08-2014

At her emergency general meeting held on 18th August 2014 on the current crisis in the health sector, after much deliberation, MDCAN FETHA resolved as follows:

1) MDCAN FETHA totally condemns the federal governments circular ref no C3132/V/46 on presidential directive suspending residency training in Nigeria and calls on the government to reverse it without delay

2) Residents are part and parcel of consultants. Consultants cannot work alone. Therefore if residents are to be or remain sacked, Government should be prepared to sack consultants also.

3) We reiterate our support for NMA's struggles and reaffirm that no doctor should receive any termination letter from the management of federal teaching hospital abakaliki or sign register for doing his duty.

4) We enjoin the federal government to implement, without further delay, the agreements reached with respect to NMA's 24 point demands with a view to resolving the crisis in the health sector

5) We, in conjuction with ebonyi state NMA, reiterate our support for the struggle to contain Ebola virus disease in Ebonyi state and the country.
