COMMUNIQUE OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENT DOCTORS OF NIGERIA (NARD) AFTER AN EXTRA-ORDINARY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING

COMMUNIQUE OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENT DOCTORS OF NIGERIA (NARD) AFTER AN EXTRA-ORDINARY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING IN PARKVIEW HOTELS LIMITED, WUSE ZONE 1, ABUJA ON  24th october 2013
PREAMBLE
The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria {NARD} held an extra-ordinary National Executive council (NEC) meeting on Thursday 24th October 2013 at the Conference hall of the Parkview Hotel Umited, Wuse Zone 1 Abuja, to reappraise the ongoing indefinite strike action embarked on by the association since the 1stday of October 2013.
The NEC has resolved as follows: 
(I) That NEC has suspended her three (3) weeks old nationwide strike with immediate effect. 
{2} That the suspension was as a result of: 
The Health challenges Nigerian masses have been subjected to since the onset of the strike  
The constitution of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Residency Training to work towards a comprehensive residency training. framework for the nation. 
The Constitution of a Task Force to ensure immediate payment of the funds released for settlement of salary arrears owed our members from problems followlng the implementation of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). 
(3) The federal Government should act immediately to implement all 'the issues contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both parties. 
{4} That no punitive action of any sort would be meted out on any of our members for participating in the ltloustrial action. 
(5) NEC will watch closely the implementation of all the agreements reached with the Government and progress is to be reviewed at the next regular meeting of NARD. 
(6) NEC appreciates the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,' Dr GoodluCK Etlel Jonathan for the intervention to bring this impasse to an end. We also lIppreciate the roles played by the Ministers of Health and Labour and their team in the dialogue that resulted in the resolution of the crisis . 
 (7) Lastly, we appreciate the patience of Nigerians who endured throughout the duration of the industrial action and we hope that the pursuance of the terms of the MOU 'by all parties does not bring us back on this track
