The Women for Health Programme (W4H) is a five year DFID-funded health programme with the main objective of addressing the shortage of female health workers in five selected states in Northern Nigeria. W4H is in full support of the MDG goals focused on reducing child and maternal mortality especially in selected Northern states in Nigeria. The programme aims to address this through provision of female health workers; in order to encourage improved access to health for women. The programme will address critical health sector human for women. The programme will address critical health sector human resource challenges by using an approach which empowers women as service providers.
W4H is operated by a consortium of three organizations namely; Health Partners International UK, Save the Children, UK and GRID Consulting Nigeria. The programme has since commenced its activities in Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfarea and Yobe with coordination from the programme head office in Kano. It Now seeks to engage a qualified professional to fill the position below.
Deputy National Programme Manager: Kano
The Deputy Programme Manager (DNPM) will report directly to the National Programme Manager (NPM). The DNPM will oversee and provide technical support on all technical inputs and across state Teams to ensure programmes objectives are achieved.
Other key responsibilities include:
• Coordinate all terms of reference, reports (quarterly and annual) in line with approved budgets for the programme management and DFID;
• Work closely with State Team Leads in planning and budgeting of programme activities in line with the log frame;
• Oversee and provide regular supportive supervision on performance and review of the process of project implementation in all programme activities;
• Provide support to the NPM on administrative and operational management of the programm; 
• Support the NPM in management regular correspondence with DFID  representatives on various stages of programme implementation;
• Monitor the implementaion of value for money initiatives as well as other milestone delivery reports
Qualifications:
Interested candidates must have an advanced degree in either, Project Management, Public health, Social sciences or Management, Interested candidates must hands-on experience and in-depth understanding of the operations of health training institutions, health system reforms and policy development, S/he will must have a minimum of seven (7) years' experience in a similar programme management role within a developing country, Additional skills and experience required include; Human Resource planning, organization, advocacy, communication and team building skills. Excellent knowledge and hands commuication and team building skills. Excellent knowledge and hands on experience in the use of Microsoft office tools packages is essential.
Terms and Conditions for Employment
The appointment team will be for a period of 3 years, with an initial 6 months probationary period. The programme offers very competitive salary packages. However, local terms and conditions apply. This position will be based in the Kano office of the programme.
