Indication emerged yesterday that doctors working in the nation’s public hospitals who have been on strike may call it off tomorrow.
This, according to sources, followed the meeting of the doctors under the auspices of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, with stakeholders and the National Assembly.
Besides, the Kaduna and Kano branches of the NMA have called on their members to resume work following the bomb blasts which left many people dead and several others wounded.
Already, an Emergency Delegate Meeting has been scheduled to hold today in Abuja. It is believed that at the meeting, a decision may be taken to call off the strike.
The doctors embarked on strike 26 days ago over unmet demands from government. All appeals from stakeholders to end the impasse between the medical practitioners and government have failed. Effects of the strike got worse as bombardments and Ebola, including other killer diseases take more lives across the country.
Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, told Saturday Mirror in Abuja yesterday that the federal government was expecting response from the medical doctors over their meeting with the National Assembly and other stakeholders during the week.
It is not clear whether or not the government has met the demands of the doctors.
