Graduate Nurses Association of Nigeria (GNAN) has Called for Schools nation wide to remain shut till october to thoroughly ascetain containment of the ebola virus disease.

 

Goodluck Nshi who is the acting national secretary of the graduate nurses association made this known in phone interview with a medicalworld correspondent where he also  lampooned the decision of the federal governemt's "go ahead" order for schools to be reopened come september 22nd.

 

You would recall that schools were supposed to open september 15th after a long holiday but was postponed due to the outbreak of the deadly ebola virus disease and was scheduled to resume october 12. But in a volte face, after a meeting between the minister of educaction and state commissioners of education in abuja, the federal government agreed that the schools should reopen on september 22.

 

Mr Nshi Goodluck insisted that ministers of education must work with stakeholders in the health sector to reach at an objective conclusion in issues that borders on health most especially as we are in an outbreak. He also faulted the minister of healths position that the virus has been contained and wondered why we could not be patient and objective before calling for resumptions.

 

According to him "this kids are vulnerable bearing in mind their ages, the minister had initially said we had only two confirmed cases in abuja, only for another case to pop up in rivers state. We must get our acts right and be realistic because we can not be sure where another ebola case might pop up. Proper surveillance is key to containment of this virus he added.
