Director of Centres for Global health (CGH) at the Centres for Disease Control (CGC), Dr Thomas Kenyon has disclosed that it was diffecult to as certain whether the zmapp used on some Ebola patients, was effective.
Dr Thomas kenyon who spoke along side the Spoke along side the Special Assistant to President Obama and Senior Director for Development and Democracy, National Security Council, Gayle Smith, via telephone conference, stated that "Zmapp is therapeutic and very difficult to produce.
It takes longtime to produce and the bottom line is that we don't even know if it works. We cannot say for sure if it is effective because some patients took it and died while some survived. It is just a trial drug."
The duo also revealed that the deadly Ebola Virus Disease is difficult to control at the moment due to fear, lack of adequate information, large population, inadequate medical facilities as well as weak diagnostic facilities in affected countries.
"There is tremendous stigmatisation of Ebola survivors and we appeal to the media to disseminate adequate and correct information that will help correct misconception about the disease so as to eradicate it. We know Ebola Virus brike out in 1976 but this is the first real epidermic across poplulation reaching on the scale nver seen before, so we need concerted action to curtailing the spread of the virus. While we commend the efforts of health workers and Nigeria's quick response, we advise that we need to find patients quickly, isolate tham and commence treatment immediately to save lives".
In controlling the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus, Dr Kenyon noted that, "It requires the collective efforts of governments across the globe, NGOs health institutions and importantly, the media. People are so afraid that the earlier adequate information is passed across to them, the better. fears. but will help fight stigmatsation of survivors of the disease"
Governments of affected countries have been tremendously transpartent in the fight against the out break of the disease.
Liberia is the worst hit as in a day about bo bodies were picked up for burial. This is the most striking explosion of disease and we commend people who lives on line to stop ots further spread.
Ebola virus is preventable and the best way is not to touch a sick persom and also the dead must be buried safely,.
