EMPLOYMENT: Reps Summon Health Minister Over Non- Compliance

Posted on: Thu 03-12-2015

House of Representatives yesterday summoned the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, to explain why his ministry denied employment for 58 Nigerians sent to it by the Federal Civil Service Commission. This resolution was sequel to a motion titled “Non – compliance by the Federal Ministry of Health with Federal Government’s directive for employment of 58 Nigerians issued letters of employment by the Federal Civil Service Commission” brought by Hon. Johnson Agbonayinma.

Moving the motion, the lawmaker recalled that the Federal Government in 2014 had directed the Civil Service Commission to employ qualified Nigerian graduates into the service to cushion the effects of unemployment in the country.

He lamented that while other ministries, departments and agencies have since absorbed candidates sent to them by the commission the Ministry of Health was yet to absorb the 58 Nigerians sent to it.

The lawmaker, while expressing concern that the 2015 Appropriations Act captured the salaries and emoluments of the 58 Nigerians, wondered what happened to the funds appropriated for them.

The House adopted the motion after it was put to a voice vote by Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
