President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said his administration was working hard to enhance medical services in the country.
In this wise, he said new technology was being acquired, while bilateral cooperation with countries like Cuba that have clear competence and expertise in the medical field was being strengthened.
Speaking at an audience with the outgoing Ambassador of Cuba to Nigeria, Mr. Hugo Rene Ramos Milanes, President Jonathan noted that Nigeria had already benefited from scholarships extended to some medical students to study in Cuba.
“We have enjoyed scholarships given to our students in the medical sciences and the use of new medical technology. We hope to benefit more from Cuban medical expertise in tackling health challenges like malaria,’’ Jonathan said.
The president told the outgoing ambassador that both countries could benefit from the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian economy.
He called on Cuban investors to explore the huge potential of sectors of Nigeria’s economy which have become open to foreign investors.
Jonathan commended Ambassador Milanes for his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Cuba and wished him well in his future endeavours.
