With a few days left before the World Health Organisation (WHO) certifies Nigeria Ebola free, the federal government is set to host a top level stakeholders meeting on the disease tomorrow.

The meeting, which is billed for Abuja, is being convened under the auspices of the Treatment Research Group (TRG) on the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). 

The minister of health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, said that experts will review the current national efforts, available resources and develop a roadmap for research on Ebola and other emerging diseases among Nigerians, both in-country and in the Diaspora. 

In a statement signed by the ministry’s director of information, Ayotunde Adesugba, the outcome of the high level meeting will help to galvanize support on a common agenda among experts and stakeholders, including the organized private sector that share similar concerns on EVD and other diseases in Sub-Saharan Africa and globally.

It may be recalled that on August 4, 2014, as part of the national response to the Ebola outbreak, the minister inaugurated the Treatment Research Group which facilitated the closure of knowledge gaps in the understanding of the disease, develop potential treatment options, while formulating a more efficient containment framework to better equip the nation against any future outbreak or any other related emergent disease.
