To reduce the prevalence of malaria among travellers during the festive season, a Nigerian-based innovative health startup, known as Wellahealth, has introduced malaria protection package for travellers. According to a statement by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ikpeme Neto, the package includes malaria prophylaxis, malaria test kits, and antimalarial pills.
“We realised that a lot of people always come into the country during this period. This means that there will be an increase in the prevalence of malaria, especially among travellers, if appropriate measures are not taken to prevent it. “Our malaria protection package is affordable and easy to access. It is safe, secure and gives comprehensive treatment with quality malaria drugs that help individuals to get better in time.
“We also constantly educate people on how to prevent malaria prevention and we are more than happy to intensify education during this period. Our vision is to see a future where every African has affordable access to high-quality health care, and this is one of our ways of ensuring this vision is fulfilled,” he said.
According to the World Health Organisation, six countries account for more than half of all malaria cases worldwide. They are Nigeria (25 per cent), Democratic Republic of Congo (12 per cent), Uganda (five per cent), Côte d’Ivoire (four per cent), Mozambique (4 per cent) and Niger (four per cent).
WHO described malaria as a significant public health problem in Nigeria, which accounts for more cases and deaths than any other ailment.
