Gender Specialist at The Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment

The Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment (LITE-Africa), formerly known as the Niger Delta Professionals for Development (NIDPRODEV), is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization with a mission to facilitate community and human development, foster good governance and create inclusive and diverse networks and collaborations in the Niger Delta and beyond. LITE-Africa is currently looking to fill a Gender- Specialist position that will be on a full-time basis and will start immediately. This position will be based in Effurun-Warri, Delta State.
 
LITE-Africa ensures gender mainstreaming in all of our programs to provide fairness and inclusiveness and provides special interventions which focus on the needs of women to increase their incomes, live healthier lives and become leaders in their communities. This is done by building their capacities through trainings on leadership, negotiation, civic education, human rights, budget advocacy, business development, and health rights and awareness.
 
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical advice on best practices and approaches to sustainable livelihoods and health programming.
 
•Provide technical backstopping on livelihoods and health intervention/program implementation and document lessons learned.
 
•Support LITE-Africa to develop and use innovative approaches to monitor and evaluate the performance, effectiveness/impacts of livelihoods and health interventions, including those that will involve humanitarian support.
 
•Participate in analyses of needs at the community level, assess resources available for addressing the needs of vulnerable households, and suggest approaches for filling gaps in programming.
 
•Integrate gender within the interventions, set minimum standards for LITE-Africa practice, and provide guidance to the organisation on how to meet them.
 
•Provide gender-related inputs during the design of new projects and interventions.
 
•Provide trainings in line with programme activities and support the staff to develop their gender analysis capacities through specific formal training and on the job mentoring in the field and office.
 
•Support fundraising activities through networking, proposal and concepts development for livelihoods and health interventions.
 
•Build and strengthen effective relationships and partnerships between LITE-Africa and actors working on livelihoods, health and gender for networking and cross learning to enrich LITE-Africa programs/ interventions.
 
•Assist in developing terms of reference (TOR) for LITE Africa livelihoods and health consultants.
 
•Represent LITE-Africa in livelihoods, health and gender-related forums, meetings, workshops, and conferences.
 
Qualifications and Requirements
• At least a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the field of Agricultural Economics, Public Health, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Food Security and relevant discipline or equivalent experience. Master’s degree or equivalent will be an added advantage
 
• At least five (5) years of professional experience in implementing and managing livelihoods and health development programs as well as development activities at the community and household levels
 
• Expertise in gender mainstreaming in the Niger Delta region
 
• Experience in capacity building and transfer or skills is also essential
 
• Familiarity with and commitment to addressing gender equality in livelihoods and community resources management is required
 
• Excellent administrative and organizational management skills
 
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills in English
 
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision making capabilities
 
• Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
 
• Travel is required to communities where we work by road, boat and air (urban and rural-riverine communities in the Niger Delta region and Northern Nigeria) on an as needed basis
 
• Ability to work with all levels of national and international staff, as well as donors
 
• Advanced Word, Excel and PowerPoint experience required
