The Imo State Government has reversed its planned decision to concession all hospitals and other public health institutions in the state.

Reacting to a question on the development in Owerri, the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Johny Ihebereme, said the sudden reversal of the decision was due to some technical reasons.
Dr. Ihebereme was speaking during the annual health week seminar of Imo State Medical and Health Workers Union in Owerri.
He said: “Following a technical advice, Governor Rochas Okorocha decided to suspend the plan and return all the money committed to the projects by the concessionaires.”
Ihebereme said the government was committed to the reformation of primary healthcare delivery through proper funding for the provision of effective service.
The permanent secretary said that “Health at Your Door Step” policy was another way to make healthcare delivery accessible to everybody in the state.
According to him, the plan to build 27 general hospitals in each local government area of the state would guarantee accessible healthcare to the rural dwellers.
He said the government had revived all the public hospitals in the state, adding that most of such hospitals had modern equipment to deliver quality service to the people.
Ihebereme, however, claimed that the government would regain all the lost glories in the health system by regaining accreditation to the school of nursing and school of health in the state.
He charged health workers in the state to be more effective in rural routine immunisation and primary healthcare delivery.
Ihebereme asked health unions leaders to sanction any of their members who failed to discharge his or duty accordingly.
