AWKA—A non- governmental organisation, Concerned Progressive Professionals, CPP, has called on the Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, to resolve the protracted crisis over who was the substantive Chief Medical Director, CMD, of Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi, Anambra State, without further delay.
In a statement by the Chairman, Bonny Obinadike, and Secretary, Acada Okongwu, the group frowned on the continued renewal of Dr. Tony Igwegbe as acting CMD when a substantive one was alleged to have been appointed since March last year.
The statement explained that the 1999 Constitution as amended, allowed three months acting capacity for such an office and wondered why the Health Ministry allowed such an anomaly to continue.
The group, however, urged the Health Minister to stop forthwith the renewal of Dr. Igwegbe as acting CMD and appoint a substantive CMD to assume office without further delay.
The CPP also threatened to take legal action against the minister and the Health Ministry, if the required change in the institution’s leadership was not effected within the shortest possible time.
