St. Ives Specialist Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos has promised to offer 50 per cent subsidy on In vitro feritilisation to assist fertility challenged couples.
In vitro fertilisation is a process by which an egg is fertilised by sperm outside the body. IVF is a major treatment for infertility used when other methods of assisted reproductive technology have failed.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Tunde Okewale, in a statement on Tuesday, said the subsidy, which started this month, was to celebrate the forthcoming International Women’s Day, Mothers Day and to provide an opportunity for the challenged couples to conceive.
Okewale said, “IVF is an expensive procedure, all over the world. We have identified the cost as a major factor why many do not take the option when they have fertility problems.
But with this price slash, more couples who need it but can’t afford it will be able to access it. The initiative is to honour women and to further strengthen our resolve to continuously make IVF accessible and relatively affordable to couples.”
