DESPITE the directive issued to its members nation-wide to return to work Monday, the Nigeria medical Association in Kano has vowed to continue its industrial action particular in the federal government owned facilities until the sack issued on residents doctors is lifted.
Subsequently NMA has directed doctors in both Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano and National Orthopedic Hospital Dala to stay off duty pending further instructions.
NMA chairman in Kano, Dr. Sherifdeen Abbas Mashi however told The Guardian that doctors at state government hospitals are hereby mandated to return to their duty post in compliance with the national secretariat order.
Dr. Mashi who frowned at the federal government sack order on residents doctors, insisted that doctors in both federal government hospitals have been advised to report to all state own health care centers for voluntary services.
Assistant Director, Public relations, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Mal. Aminu Inuwa, however insisted that the hospital management may not do otherwise directive from the federal government.
He noted that only the consultant and junior doctors are expected to report back on duty following the suspension of the NMA strike.
Aminu said " the issue is between the doctors and federal government so its beyond the hospital management but I can assure you until we receive fresh directive from the federal ministry of health the directive given on the residency training still remains, at the same time it is expected that consultant and junior doctors return to their duty post but maybe because the strike just ended that is why you did not see them but I can assure you they will be back tomorrow".
But Dr. Mashi contended that until and except the hospital management withdraw its circular on residency training " our members would not go back to work in fact we have directed our members to join our colleagues in all the state own hospital for voluntary services".
