About NPIRGP
NPIRGP is interested in innovative field/laboratory-based projects that demonstrate strong potential for high-quality research, which in turn can inform practical action on the following:
ï‚· Lassa fever
ï‚· HIV
ï‚· TB
ï‚· Malaria
ï‚· Natural Medicine
Proposals should facilitate collaboration and networking among researchers and practitioners, andshould clearly describe research objectives and significance, with alignment between research questions and goals and research design/methods. Proposals should also demonstrate knowledge of the research subject and relevant literature, and address the feasibility of proposed research activities, including a timeline for project completion. Applicants should, in addition, discuss the likely relevance of the proposed research to current knowledge, practice and policy and situate it within existing literature.
Support is available for innovative research on the following issues:
ï‚· Epidemiology
ï‚· Pathogenesis
ï‚· Host-pathogen interactions
ï‚· Molecular diagnostics
ï‚· Development of therapeutics and vaccines
ï‚· Knowledge and application of control measures
ï‚· Social, cultural, economic and financial dimensions
ï‚· Community involvement in disease control and prevention
Grants will be awarded on a competitive, peer-reviewed basis, and are intended to support 24 months of field/laboratory-based research. Grants of a maximum of five million Naira (N5,000.000.00) each will be awarded. Multidisciplinary applications are strongly encouraged. Successful applicants will be required to submit quarterly updates and present the final results at the Institute’s annual scientific conference. They are also strongly encouraged to contribute to the NIMR official Journal.
Eligibility
This call is open to Senior Research Fellows and above. The Scientific Committee strongly encourages multidisciplinary research as a way to forge collaboration among researchers from different Departments/Units.

ï‚· Type set application not more than six A4 pages (12 points font size using Times New Roman format)
Proposals should be structured as follow:
ï‚· Background
ï‚· Rationale and Objectives
ï‚· Innovation
ï‚· Methodology
ï‚· Expected outcome
ï‚· Timeline
ï‚· Project plan
ï‚· Monitoring and Evaluation Plan
ï‚· Budget and justification
ï‚· One-page Curriculum Vitae of the Principal Investigator should be enclosed, (Excluding the page limit) NIH Bio sketch template.
Note:
1. We strongly encourage the inclusion of a realistic budget outline, keeping within the allotted amount for the grant, and fitting appropriately within a 12-month project and the required page limit.
2. More than one proposal can be submitted but you can only be the Principal Investigator for one.
3. Principal investigators with existing/active NIMR grant, are not eligible to be principal investigators, but can be part of other research proposals.
4. Principal Investigators that have completed their research projects in the last two years but have not done a proper closeout for these projects are not eligible. (Proper closeouts entails submitting the final technical and financial reports)
