Members of the Joint Action Congress (JAC) of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital have denied some media report that its members are on strike.

Speaking to journalists at the weekend, chairman of the union, that comprises all sister union in the hospital, Mr. Taiger Mai Beri, said that it was untrue that their members are not working and called on patients to always come to the hospital for their medical care.

“We heard the rumors making the rounds that we are on strike. We want to use this avenue to set the records straight. We want to state it categorically that we are not on strike. We have been working assiduously. We are calling on the patients not to relent but to come as members of JAC are on ground to see them,” he said.

In an exclusive chat with LEADERSHIP, a Lab scientist with the hospital, Mr. Njoku Chinedu, explained that it was only the medical doctors that were on strike, adding that Lab scientists have always been on ground to attend to the needs of patients.

“We have been working seriously here, we are not on strike. In fact for the last three days, we have 200 samples in minology, Microbiology, Hermatology. We are working with the help of the nurses. We are here, when the samples come, we work on them,” he said.

LEADERSHIP investigations revealed that most of the patients on admission in the wards were being attended to by nurses and queried the reason for the false report.

“Since I was admitted here nurses have always been on ground to attend to my medical needs. They are not on strike. It is the medical doctors who are and I pray they call it off soon,” Matilda Ugwu, one of the patients said.
