THE Chief Executive Officer, Lifeworth HMO, Dr. Raymond Osho, has reiterated the need for health care providers to deliver value and quality care for people who have subscribed to health insurance.
Osho, during an event organised by the firm for health care providers, said the quality of service within the health care value chain would encourage people to have faith in health insurance.
He added that health insurance in Nigeria must be periodically evaluated through discourse on how well to improve health care delivery in the country.
“Affordable health care must deliver on its mandate, which include accessibility, responsiveness and quality. This will in turn give the enrolees the best of services from the HMO, which is delivered by the health care providers. This is the way through which the enrollees can trust the system, as a whole,” Osho said.
A former President of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, Dr. Anthony Omolola, urged health care practitioners to digitise their practice. He advocated a seamless generation of authorisation codes for providers on behalf of their enrolees in order to ensure speedy care.
The Associate Director, Health Financing, Health Systems Consult Limited, Dr. Oluwatosin Kolade, while delivering a paper on ‘Health Insurance: Improving Service Delivery to the Enrollees’, compared the Nigerian health insurance industry with what is obtainable in other African countries.
He said Nigeria had only been able to achieve fewer than five per cent coverage of its population, in comparison to Ghana and Rwanda’s health insurance, which cover about 50 per cent and over 90 per cent of both countries’ populations, respectively.
