PUBLIC NOTICE: This is to inform all medical and dental practitioners in Nigeria and the general public that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria MDCN has the statutory responsibility for the regulation of medical, dental and alternative medicine practice in Nigeria including cinical laboratory practice by members of the professions as stipulated by the provisions of the Medical and Dental Practitioners' Act Cap M8 LFN 2004 and the various regulatory documents flowing therefrom.

Council shall continue its statutory visitations to both private and public health facilities (to inspect, monitor or accredit such insisutions as the case may be), including clinical laboratories operated by Laboratory Medicine Physicians (Pathologists) and insitutions as the where medical students and doctors are trained.

This notice has become necessary in the light of increasing number of complaints of negligence and malpractice against practitioners from th general public.Practitioners who are administrative heads of public and private health institutions of negligence and malpractice against practitioners from the general public.practitioners who are administrative heads of public and private health institutions are by this notice reminded of their responsibility as stipulated in Rule 50 of the Code of Medical Ethics in Nigeria (2008 edition), to ensure that practitioners under them comply with all extant rules, regulations and standards including the provisions of the Code of

Medical Ethincs in Nigeria (Rule 49) on Private Practice (PP) by practitioners in the Government employment.

Council also wishes to state that its disciplinary activities are ongoing and practitioners against whom the Medical and Dental Practitioners' Disciplinary Tribunal as soon as the Chairman of Council is appointed.The general public is encourage once more to report to the Council any act(s) of malpractice or negligence committed against them by practitoners.
