THE Chief Medical Director (CMD), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi, Prof. Anthony Igwegbe has restated that his appointment was made and approved by the President Goodluck Jonathan like every other appointment of the CMD of Federal Tertiary Hospital.
Igwegbe stated that there is no controversy whatsoever surrounding his appointment, insisting that his appointment letter as the CMD of NAUTH was conveyed to him by the Honourable Minister of Health.
He also said that there is no crisis of any kind in the hospital as the administration has made tremendous success in service delivery and infrastructural development in its permanent, temporary and annexed sites in the state.
He further faulted the report in a national newspaper where he was quoted to have said that “the President does not appoint the CMD,” saying that it was a misrepresentation of fact. He said, “I was misquoted, the reporter quoted me out of context. The President appoints the CMD of all Federal University Teaching Hospitals.”
Addressing newsmen yesterday in reaction to a recent media report, that controversy trails his appointment as the CMD of the hospital, Igwegbe said he emerged through due process and the records are there at the Presidency and Federal Ministry of Health for anybody in doubt to verify
“Federal Ministry of Health led by the director of Hospital Services. The chairman of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Anambra State, the provost, College of Medicine, Nnamdi Azikiwe University and a member of the Federal Character Commission were members of the interview panel,” said Igwegbe.
He noted that I after some contest the losers complain, adding that it is normal for people to feel bitter when they  loose, as he warned detractors to desist from activities that undermine his  administration.
The CMD called on every staff of the institution to close ranks and join hands to deliver service to the patients and help develop Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi.
