Resident Doctors of the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, have resumed their suspended strike action over the non payment of skipping allowances by the skipping allowances by the management.
The doctors said they decided to resume the strike action on April 1 after all avenues to resolve the dispute failed.
Speaking yesterday, President, Association of Resident Doctors, Eye Centre Branch, Dr. Dawa Sambo, Said the strike was in line with a directive by the Nigerian
Medical Association (NMA) which ordered all local affiliates to ensure the implementation of payment of skipping allowances to doctors in their hospitals.
Dr. Dawa said the branch union wondered why medical doctors were sidelined in the payment of the allowances by the management of the eye centre while other health workers were enjoying same.
He also said the union was worried why some allowances like teaching and hazard allowances were given to non-health workers, who are not engaged in teaching or exposed to hospital hazards.
Dr.Dawa said having exhausted all available options, the union felt a strike action was the last resort and vowed not to resume work until their entitlements are paid.
