In its commitment to ensuring that high standards of service delivery are maintained always, and in furtherance of its resolve to protect the rights and privileges of lives under the Scheme, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has concluded a painstaking process of re-accreditation of Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) registered with the Scheme.
The reaccreditation exercise, which spanned the period of February 2017 to January 2018, was aimed at guaranteeing that only HMOs with requisite capacity are entrusted with the health-seeking interests of lives of NHIS.
At the end of the exercise in April 2018, only 1 HMO (Defence Health Maintenance Limited),clearly met all criteria for full accreditation.

23 HMOs failed outrightly and were recommended for delisting.
However, the Goveming Council of NHIS, after a review of the reports, graciously offered a 2-week window to the 23 HMOs recommended for delisting to remedy their deficiencies. This 2-week window of remediation ended on the 24th April, 2018.
During the Goveming Council meeting of May 8, 2018, it was shown that 19 of the 23 HMOs were able to partially correct their deficiencies and are hereby granted provisional re-accreditation, pending total remediation of their deficiencies between the period of May 1 to July 30, 2018, which will qualify them for full licensing.
Also, during this 2-week remediation exercise, NHIS recouped a sum of One Hundred and Three Million Naira (N103, 000, 000.00) only as debt owed the Scheme by these 23 HMOs.
The Scheme hereby announces that the 4 (four) HMOs listed below are formally de-listed, and their licenses withdrawn for failing to meet the criteria for re-accreditation.
The de-listed HMOs are:
1. Bupar Healthcare Limited
2. Harry Health Integrated Services Limited
3. MN Healthcare Limited
4. Allied HMO Limited
Anyone who does business with them any further does so at his or her own risk.
As part of the Scheme's efforts to serve Nigerians better, it has advertised in newspapers and on radio stations nationwide, requesting all healthcare facilities to report any indebtedness by HMOs.
Next on NHIS' agenda is the re-accreditation of healthcare facilities nationwide in a bid to identify false and non-existent healthcare facilities, and thereby avoid waste.
This exercise begins in June 2018.
NHIS hereby reassures the general public and particularly our stakeholders, that it will proceed unfailingly with the process of stamping out the unfortunate widespread incidence of service failure, and to restore the rights of lives to top quality care and dignity at all service points.
