The Minister stated this in Abuja when he embarked on a pre-commissioning visit to the National Trauma Centre located on the premises of the Abuja National Hospital.
The Minister who was conducted round the Centre by the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, Prof.B.B.Shehu, accompanied by the top Management of the hospital, expressed optimism that Nigeria’s dream of having a befitting Trauma Centre has finally become a reality.
Addressing newsmen after the visit, the Minister explained that the centre is the best Trauma Centre in the country equipped with state-of –the earth equipment with a capacity of 80 bed space.
In addition, he commended the management for the beautiful design of the centre which has provision for Helipad for landing and taking off of Helicopters.
Prof.Chukwu also visited some victims of the National immigration Service recruitment exams stampedes who were admitted at the National Hospital .While commiserating with the victims; he assured that Government would foot their medical bills.
While commending the Staff, Board and Management of the Hospital for their hard work, diligence and commitment to duty, he charged them to imbibe maintenance culture and make it a point of duty to always keep the hospital clean and tidy.
He also called on the hospital management to come up with innovations that will make the hospital world standard that will compete favourably with others in the world.
The places he visited at the Trauma Centre include among others Mass Casualty Ward, Laboratory, Blood Bank, E-Library, Ultra Sound Room, X-ray, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Burns Unit, Theatre, as well as Female and Children ward.
