Results of random medical tests recently conducted on 100 residents of Zaki Biyu community in Jabi, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, showed that 40 of them, especially children, have malaria due to poor environmental condition.

A non-profit organisation, Silver Lining for the Needy Initiative, sponsored the medical tests.

The Head of Administration and Communication in SLNI, Ms. Favour Umade, stated this on Monday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the outcome of a town hall meeting on environmental and health improvement conducted in the community.

The meeting featured talks on the effects of dirty environment on health and ways to improve the health of the community dwellers.

Umade said, “We cleared refuse dumps from the roads and gutters. We also discovered that the drainages were blocked.

“We did malaria test for over 100 people, especially children; and the results showed that about 40 residents — almost half — have malaria.
