Nigeria: Oil Firm Supports Midwifery Students

Abuja — SHELL Petroleum Development Company has offered scholarships to 50 students of the School of Midwifery School in Oron Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State.
The oil firm donated N324 000.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Ememabasi Bassey, confirmed the empowerment initiatives.
He said the scholarship fund for the students would boost academic performance.
He noted that the gesture will help the students complete their programme thereby increasing the number of skilled professional health workers in the area of maternal health workers in the state.
Bassey described Shell Petroleum Development Company as a good corporate body with genuine intentions of contributing to the development of the state.
He assured that the ministry will ensure that all school of Nursing in the state was fully accredited.
The Commissioner advised the students to take their study seriously so as to justify the investment on them by the government and other corporate bodies.
