Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Ado Muhammed, has refuted media reports that the agency was being investigated for corrupt practices by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
While giving an account of his two-year stewardship yesterday in Abuja, he said, "The agency is not under probe. Rather, we are collaborating with the ICPC under the system and study review to see how we can improve primary health care delivery across the country."
Ado said the collaboration was to see to how the primary health care centres abandoned project across the country since 2006 could be completed, since primary health care is the cornerstone for health.
He added that the ICPC had already concluded the system and study review in the Ministry of Education and that the Ministry of Health is next.
Ado stated, "The ultimate objective is for Nigeria to benefit from accessible and affordable healthcare and for this to happen, physical structures have to be on ground."
On the transmission of the wild polio virus in the country, the NPHCDA boss said that the country has reduced polio transmission by 57 per cent in 2013, as it has only recorded 50 cases this year, against 121 cases this time last year. He added that Nigeria has not recorded wild polio virus type 3 (wpv3) this year.
Ado disclosed that the cases are restricted to Borno and Yobe states while Borno account for 16 cases.
