THE Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has bemoaned the insufficiency of medical doctors to man healthcare services in the country.
Speaking with newsmen in Eket at the weekend after a meeting of medical doctors, the NMA Ex-President, Mr. Osahon Enabulele, said the sit- uation had led to huge gap in the healthcare sector where about a little over 27,000 doctors were servicing over 170 million Nigerians.
He said: "We recognise that in Nigeria today, we have the population well over 170 million Nigerians and we have just about a little over 27,000 doctors seIVicing over 170 million Nigerians and our results have shown a very huge gap in the heaIthcare sector and it has led to a lot of our doctors either faIling ill or dying in the country" due to excessive workload."
