NMA Forms Committee in Response to NICN Ruling Favouring Medical Laboratory Scientists, Rejects NICN Rulings

Sequel to the acquisition and careful study of a copy of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) Judgement in a suit No. (NICN/ABJ/284/2014), the President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Sir. Dr. Kayode OBEMBE has appointed a three- man committee namely

- Dr. K.C IREGBU - Chairman,

- Dr. P.O. OLATUNJI - Member and

- Dr. H.A.S. EWUNONU - Secretary/ Member

This committee which was inaugurated on Friday 19th February, 2016 at 4.00pm, was mandated to interface with Messrs. Yusuf Ali SAN and Co, the Legal Counsel to NMA to immediately study the situation and advise the Association on the next steps.

According to a memo obtained by medicalworld Nigeria and signed by the association secretary Dr H A S Ewunonu, the committee immediately met with the representatives of the Yusuf Ali Chambers with the NMA President in attendance.

After the meeting, the following decisions were reached;

i). NMA after a careful study of the judgement, rejects in its entirety the declarations, order and injunction made therein.

ii). The Association therefore has instructed her lawyers Messrs Yusuf Ali & Co to proceed to appeal the judgement without any delay including obtaining a restraining injunction against any action based on the judgement.

iii). All members of the Association are enjoined to make inputs in order to assist the Committee and our lawyers to prosecute this case to a logical and satisfactory conclusion.

iv). All doctors (including Pathologists and their residents) are advised to continue with their duties and other assigned responsibilities and report any cases or hindrance to the respective C/MD and NMA National Secretariat.
