NMA Strike: A Win for Boko Haram - Governor Uduaghan

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has called on medical doctors in the country to consider the plight Nigerians especially in the north where activities of insurgents have left several persons injured and most in need of medical attention to call off their one-week-old strike in the interest of patriotism.

Uduaghan made the appeal at the weekend while addressing journalists in the state at Government House, Asaba, saying that for medical practitioners to embark on strike at this critical time of security challenges in the country, it would give the insurgents impetus that they are winning the fight against the Nigerian state.

According to him, many children in the northern part of the country are presently being deprived of education and should doctors who are expected to treat them also go on strike, it sends a wild signal of jubilation to the Islamic sect that they are winning.

Uduaghan said: “We appeal to the striking doctors to go back to work. This is not the best of time for our doctors to embark on strike because of the insecurity in the country. If our children in the north are denied access to school and also you deny them access to health, it means that the insurgents are winning the war.”

The governor, however, assured that the Federal Government was doing it best to have all issues resolved soon, adding that, it would be better if they can go back to their duty post to save those who are in need of medical attention while dialogue is on-going.
