The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has challenged federal government to urgently address the crisis in the health sector to avert industrial disharmony.

The newly inaugurated NMA Kano State branch chairman Dr.Sharfuddeen Abbas Mashi made the call in his inaugural speech at the end of the association's annual general meeting held in the state. 

Dr. Sharfuddeen Mashi, who expressed disgust at government's attitude, said the issue of the leader of health team in the sector should not be in contention considering the nature of training of each personnel and what obtains internationally.

"Have you ever seen where a non-academic staff became the vice chancellor in a university or a para-legal becoming a chief judge or even a cabin crew serving as a pilot?" Dr Mashi asked.

He declared that medical doctors are the leaders in the health sector, and reiterated his commitment to welfare of members.

In a remark, the outgoing Kano State branch, Dr.Shehi Ali Abubakar, urged the present executives to sustain the quarterly continuous medical eductives to sustain the quarterly continuous medical education which forcuses on updating practitioners with knowledge through the association's newsletter, Kano Mednews, and to continue the quest to attain 100 percent consolidated medical salary structure (CONMESS) Which presently stands at 94%
