NPC Probes Children Death in Taraba

The National Population Commission on Thursday said it had commenced a verbal and social autopsy survey across the 12 local government areas of Taraba State to find the causes of death of children under five years of age..
 
A Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Sani Sale, said this during a press briefing in Jalingo.
 
Sale said the objective of the survey was to provide up-to-date information on early childhood mortality rate, estimation of cultural and behavioural health systems, factors affecting children under five years in 12 local government areas of the state.
 
The federal commissioner said the commission was collaborating with relevant agencies to conduct the survey and to generate data for national planning. He stated, “The result of the survey will provide national, zonal and state level estimate of major causes of death of children under five.
 
“For the ongoing 2019 survey, two sets of interviewing teams are on the field to get responses from care-givers in the communities.” The 12 local government areas covered by the survey in Taraba included Jalingo, Lau, Kalim Lamido, Gasol, Takum, and Wukari.
