QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE FOR ACADEMIC POSITIONS IN THE FACULTY OF BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES.

(i) Lecturer I

Candidates applying for the position of Lecturer I in the Department of Chemical Pathology and the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology must possess Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBSMBChB) from recognized Universities, a Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or the West African College of Physician in respective fields. He/She also must be a registered Medical Practitioner with the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council. Possession of additional qualification and/or publication(s) in peer reviewed journals will be an added advantage.

(ii) Lecturer I

Candidates applying for the position of Lecturer I in the Department of Medical Biochemistry must possess Ph.D Degrees in Biochemistry or Medical Biochemistry. In addition, candidates should have 2 to 3 years Teaching and Research experience along with at least 4 publications in peer reviewed journals. The candidate should also be ICT Proficient.

(iii)Department of Nursing Science

Candidates applying for the position of Senior Lecturer must possess a Bachelor Degree in Nursing Science with not less than Second Class Upper Division, Master of Science in Nursing (with Thesis). A PhD. in Nursing and must be registered as a Nurse/Midwife/Public Health, Nurse/Mental Health-Psychiatric Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Academic experience between 8 and 10 years in a University environment with specialization in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing/Medical Surgical Nursing/Maternal and Child Health Nursing with at least 13 publications in reputable national and international journals.

Candidates applying for the position of Lecturer I must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science with not less than Second Class Upper Division, Master of Science in Nursing (with Thesis). Registered as a Nurse/Midwife/Public Health Nurse/Mental Health-Psychiatric Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Academic experience of between 3 and 6 years in a university environment with specialization in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing/Medical Surgical Nursing/Maternal and Child Health Nursing with at least 7 publications in reputable national and international journals. Candidates with PhD. in Nursing will be most desirable.

Candidates applying for the position of Lecturer II must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science with not less than Second Class Upper Division, Master of Science in Nursing (with Thesis). Registered as a Nurse/Midwife/Public Health Nurse/Mental Health-Psychiatric Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria with at least 3 publications in reputable national and international journals.

Faculty of Clinical Sciences

(i) Lecturer I

Candidates applying for the position of Lecturer I in the Department of Medicine must have the current practicing license of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), must have completed the Residency Training in Internal Medicine and must have obtained the award of Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or West African College of Physicians or equivalent Fellowship. Evidence of publications in reputable journals would be an added advantage AND possession of additional academic qualifications would also be an added advantage.

Candidates applying for the position of Lecturer I in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health must possess Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS/MBChB), Fellowship of West African College of Physicians (FWACP) or National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCPaed) or equivalent Fellowship.

Faculty of Dentistry

(i) Lecturer I

Candidates applying for the position of Lecturer I in the Faculty of Dentistry must possess a basic degree in Dental Surgery (B.Ch.D) or B.D.S.) from reputable institution in addition to possessing Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College (FMCDS) or Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) or equivalent Fellowship specializing in the respective fields. Scientific publications in reputable Medical/Dental journals within and outside Nigeria will be added advantage.

(ii) Medical Trainee Fellow

Candidates for the position of Medical Training Fellow are expected to possess MBBS/MBChB from a recognized University. He/She must have passed Part 1 of the National Postgraduate Medical College or the West African College of Physicians or equivalent Fellowship examinations in Laboratory Medicine with option in Haematology and Blood Transfusion. He/She must be a registered Medical Practitioner with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. Candidates applying for this position must not be above 35 years of age.

(iii) Assistant Lecturer

Candidates applying for the position of Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Medical Rehabilitation must possess BMR(OT) or B.Sc. Degree in Occupational Therapy with credit pass and current practicing License.

Medical Laboratory Technologist I

Candidate applying for this position must possess BMLS Degree from recognized University or its equivalent as spelt out by MLSCN Act No. II of 2003 (FGN official Gazette). Evidence of Registration with MLSCN and Current Practicing License is required.

Pharmacist I

Candidates applying for the position of Pharmacist I must possess B.Pharm. Degree from recognized university, NYSC Discharge Certificate or evidence of Exemption from N.Y.S.C. Evidence of Registration with Pharmacists Council of Nigeria and Current practicing license is required.

Physiotherapist

Candidates applying for this position must possess B.Sc Physiotherapy, Medical Rehabilitation or any other equivalent degree from recognized Universities. Current practicing license is required.

Nursing Officer I

Candidates applying for this position must be a registered Nurse and Midwife with 3 years post-qualification experience and also possess a current Nursing License. A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science (BNSC) will be an added advantage

Medical Social Work Officers Grade II

Candidates applying for this position must have a good University degree in Social Work from a recognized University or a degree in Social Science with Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work. A Master’s degree in Social Work will be an added advantage.

Medical Imaging Scientist

Candidates applying for this position must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Imaging Scientist/ Medical Radiography from a recognized Institution or any other equivalent qualification with 5 years post-qualification experience. He/She must be registered with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN)and must possess working knowledge in Ultrasonography.

Medical Laboratory Scientist II

Candidates applying for this position should possess the Associate of the Medical Laboratory Science (AIMLS) or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) with specialization in Haematology and Medical Microbiology.

Optometrist

Candidates applying for this position must possess a Doctor of Optometry degree (OD) and must be registered with the Optometrist and Dispensing Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN).

Technologist I

Candidates applying for the post of Technologist I must possess a minimum of HND or its equivalent and indicate the field which they are applying for. Candidates must show evidence of completion of NYSC. Candidates must possess at least three years post-HND working experience in established Laboratory and are actively involved in Laboratory analyses, involved in laboratory analyses.
