Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria Cancels all Vision Screenings Nationwide

QUACKS AMONGST PROFESSIONALS. The Board has observed with dismay the unprofessional way Optometrists carry out Vision Screening in the country.

This unprofessional attitude has bred a high increase of quacks that are now competing with the Professional Optometrists. They even compete among themselves for Churches, Schools, Market places and even street corners for places where to carry out vision screening.

· Consequent to this, all vision screenings both individual and organizational are henceforth cancelled.

· Any person/persons or Organization wishing to carry out vision screening MUST get clearance from the Board through the State Chairman of NOA who will ensure that the objectives of the exercise meet the goals of Vision 2020.

· The State Chairman will send a representative to monitor the programme and report to the Board through the State Chairman.

· Defaulters of these stipulated guidelines will be liable to a fine of N50,000 for individuals and N150,000 for Organizations.

· Optometrists in Nigeria should rise to the defense and protection of our dear Profession by reporting to the Board or their State Chairman of any Vision Screening taking place in their vicinity.
