The ordinary general meeting of the Osun State Association of Medical and Dental Officers (OSAMDO) was held on 30th March 2016 to review the situation of things in respect to worsening conditions of service of medical officers working in the state government of Osun.
In a letter addresed to the Head of service of the state of Osun by OSAMDO and made available to a Medicalworld Nigeria correspondent, the following observations were made at the OGM:
1. That despite the fact the government has refused to acced to our demand for a memorandum of understanding that whatever is the shortfall of the amount paid as salary now will be paid whenever the economy of the state improves
2. And whereas the CORRECTED CONMESS which has been in immplementation since January 2015 in the federal and some state public services and which has been presented to the state government of Osun is yet to be considered for implementation
3. And whereas all the other demands we made as contained in our letter Ref No. GS/2015.204 of 9th March 2015 which were the basis of the on-going prolonged industrial action have not been addressed by the government.
After extensive deliberations at the OGM amidst the rising cases of avoidable deaths among the citizenry and passionate appeals of Rt. Honourable Najeem Folasayo Salaam, Speaker of the Osun state house of Assembly as well as notable and respected elders of the Medical profession amongst which are Dr Laosebikan D, Dr Femi Adefioye and Dr Gbenga Adepoju the current Director of Medical services, the house unanimously decided that the ongoing strike action be suspended to alleviate sufferings of the people and avoid unnecesary deaths. Going forward, all members would resume duty on Monday 4th April 2016 at 08:00Hr. The association reiterated that all its demands still subsist while hoping and praying for better economic fortune for the state in the near future. OSAMDO also vowed to defend all members against any act of victimization by the authority.
The letter was signed by Dr I.A Adekunle and Dr O. Subair, the association chairman and General secretary respectively.
