Osun State chapter of the Pharmaceuticals Society of Nigeria (PSN) has urged the state government not to give room for disparity between pharmacists and medical doctors in the state.
Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, the Chairman of PSN in the state, Adebanjo Akinbile said there was no basis for such dichotomy.
Akinbile urged Governor Rauf Aregbesola to enhance the remuneration of pharmacists in Osun State so that they could get what their colleagues working with the Federal Government earned.
He also enjoined the state government to recruit more health professionals for the state and local government owned hospitals to cater for the health needs of the people.
Specifically, PSN leader noted that there was an urgent need for the state government to employ more pharmacists in the state, lamenting a situation when one Pharmacist worked in each of the 30 local government areas in the state.
He also appealed to the federal and state governments to grant the demands of the Joint Health sector union and professional bodies to avert the pending industrial action in the health sector in the country.
He charged the Federal Government to enforce the rules and guidelines of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which he said was not favourable to all the health professionals.
