The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria has shut down about 68 illegal Pharmacies operating in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Nasarawa State.
The closure followed a raid carried out on 10 communities on both sides of the boundary between Nasarawa State and the FCT.
The Registrar of PCN and Secretary of its Governing Council, Mr. Nurudeen Mohammed, told journalists in Abuja the PCN acted based on reports received from concerned Nigerians on illegal sale of medicines in the area.
The PCN secretary said, “Our office received reports of the activities of illegal sale of medicines in some communities on both sides of the boundary between FCT and Nasarawa State.
At the end of the exercise, a total number of 85 premises were visited and 68 premises were sealed for offences ranging from unauthorised sale of medicines, operating without supervision of a Pharmacist.
“A total of 12 premises were issued compliance directives for issues ranging from poor documentation, poor storage condition of medicines, amongst others. From the outcome of the exercise, I can tell you that the rational distribution of medicines in these areas will be greatly enhanced.”
