Pharmacists Drags CRSG To court Over Hospital Concession

The Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, Cross River State chapter, Mr Paul Agbulu, has threatend to drug Agbulu, has threatened to drag Cross River State government to court over the concession of public hsopitals in the state. 
 The government had last week signed Memorandum of Understanding with four concessionaires for the management of some general hospitals, and the provision and the provision and management of outdoor signage services  Health facilities involved were General Hospital, Bekwarra, which is to be run by Bakor Hospital Limited General Hospital, Obudu, taken over by Saint Luke Hospital while Meditron-Loba Healthcare Ltd takes pharmacies and clinical diagnostic centres in general hospitals Igoli, Yahe, Okpoma and Sankwala.
 But Agbulu, in a statement made available to Daily  Newswatch, said "the concession of public hospital pharmacies was unethical, Illegal and a denial of the people to get quality pharmaceutical services.
"The laws establishing government hospital pharmacies are quite different from community pharmacies, private hospitals and marketing companies. It is also illegal for any of the licenses of these companies to be super imposed on the other.
"The bedrock of setting up government hospital is to render healthcare services, train hospital staff and provide Medicare to all, especially the down trodden.
The concept of concession by government is therefore to drive money sprinning ventures and business for the boys,
The following qustions posit: Who takes responsiblity when fake and counterfeit drugs get into the system?
What is the legal framework within the pharmacy and drug laws of the federatio n these concessionaires hope to operate? what ethical Pharmaceutical platform will these companies operate?"
