Pharmacists have urged Nigeria Labour Cogress (NLC) and Trade Union Congree (NLC) and Trade Union Congree (TUC) to intervene in the current impasses in the Federal Ministry of Health towards resloving the myriad of issues plaguing efficient output of health workers is in the country.
National President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Olumide Akintayo, spoke recently which lamenting that Federal Government has continued to renege from fulfilling its promises to implement mutual agreement on workers' welfare and condition of services even with the warning strike in January.
The workers gave Federal Government 15-day ultimatum in January to meet their demands after which they embarked on three day warning strike as government allegedly failed to meet up.
According to Akintayo, who is also an executive member of Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of All Healthcare Professionals in Nigeria (AHPN), their demands included non-skipping of consolidate health salary skill (CONHESS 10), National Health Bill, Presidential committee report on harmony in the health sector and promotion of health professionals.
"we must put on record that since the warning strike in last January, We have been made to pass through oscillations and vacillations by the bureaucracy of government at various dialogue sessions in February, March, April and recently on May 13.
"Some of the major issues in contention include adjustment of CONMESS scale in line with existing agreements with government, issuance of circulars on specialist allowance and consultancy cadre for all eligible health workers in Nigeria.
"Incrementin retrirement age of health workers from 60 to 65 years, redressing the lopsidedness in membership structure in board appointments in all federal health institutions (FHIs), scrapping the unlawdul position of deputy chairman and medical advisory committee in the 55 federal health institutions."
He, therefore, called for immediate intervention of the organsied labour to ensure that all areas of the memirandum of understanding (MOU) signed on May 13 are implemented before the review meeting of June 5,streeting that failure to achieve this would leadto resumption of strike
