Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) said yesterday that until satisfactory resolutions are reached, the current strike will continue.

This was contained in a communique issued and jointly signed by  chairman and secretary of the association, Dr. Mohammed Sani Ibrahim and Shehu Abdulrahman respectively, at the end of an emergency meeting.

The meeting condemned the mass sack of resident doctors and called on government to reverse the decision. 

“Rather than showing commitment to bringing an end to the ongoing industrial dispute with the NMA,  the federal government has embarked on a harmful step to scrap the residency training programme in the country by sacking over 16,000 resident doctors all at once. We will not negotiate further with the government until the unconditional reversal of the mass sack,” part of the communique read.

The group lamented that the government is yet to implement the unilateral proposals it brought forward since the beginning of the dispute, just as it is yet to release the appropriate circulars and letters as demanded by NMA.

Kaduna doctors, however, reiterated their commitment to the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of Ebola Virus Disease in the state and in country.
