The Taraba State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill establishing a State Health Care Delivery Agency, which seeks to improve primary healthcare delivery systems in the state.

The bill which was sponsored by Abdullahi Jugulde (Gembu Constituency) also aims at reducing the pressure on secondary and tertiary health institutions in the state for efficient healthcare services.

Joseph Albasu Kunin (Lau Constituency) moved motion for third reading of the bill which was seconded by Rashida Abdullahi from Nguroje Constituency. 

Sponsor of the bill, Abdullahi Jugulde, said the passage was significant to the health system in the state adding: “In the North, Taraba is the last to have this bill. Primary healthcare is the bedrock of healthcare provision and if it is catered for very well, you won’t see any problem in bigger health institutions as small problems would be solved at the primary healthcare level which would decongest our tertiary healthcare institutions.”

Speaker of the Assembly, Josiah Sabo Kente, thanked the House for their commitment in passing the bill into law and directed the Clerk of the House to send a copy to the governor for assent.
