The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan has on Thursday, graduated 172 nurses from its four schools of nursing, as part of its efforts to boost human capacity for health in Nigeria.
Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Professor Abodun Otegbayo, speaking at the 2014 joint graduation ceremony of the schools said plans were on to ensure the schools were also affiliated to the University of Ibadan (UI) as part of the efforts to further train more health workers.
Professor Otegbayo, who was represented at the occasion by Dr Olubukola Adesina, the hospital’s deputy CMAC, Theatre and Intensive Care Unit, said the hospital management was also working on the schools’ reaccreditation to ensure the smooth running of its post basic nursing programmes.
He, however, charged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the school, urging that as nurses, they should not forget that their acceptance into the nursing profession comes with great responsibility.
Earlier, deputy director, Nursing Education, Mrs Fehintola Ogunde, who said the schools recorded 100 per cent pass in its professional examination, urged the nurses to stay and work in Nigeria, rather than travel abroad.
Till date, the schools of nursing had trained over 8,400 nurses both in basic and post basic nursing.
