University of Sunderland – Study Nursing In The UK

Posted on: Sun 26-03-2017

At the University of Sunderland, we offer a range of postgraduate courses that cover the health and care of the general public as well as workplace health, safety and wellbeing. Given their importance for individual wellbeing we also cover aspects of healthy environments.

The recent creation of our School of Nursing and Health Sciences means that our postgraduate teaching is informed by academics who have a direct focus on health and wellbeing. Our teaching is also informed by our research which includes:

mental health, health services, health behaviours, psychology and public health
epidemiological studies including the impacts of climate change on respiratory health
health and safety behaviours and their impact on employee wellbeing

Our students benefit from some of the very best facilities available. The University invested £8.5million in the Sciences Complex in 2011 and a further £5.5million was invested in 2016. Working in such ultra-modern laboratory and clinical facilities means you’ll have access to the very latest industry and NHS-standard equipment.

We strive to provide as much hands-on practical experience as possible. The ‘Living Lab’ is an amazing simulation facility that includes a fully immersive simulation suite, simulated ward, training pods and pharmacy dispensary. You’ll have access to a range of equipment used to evaluate public health, both in the NHS or in workplace health evaluations.

Our postgraduate students have excellent employment records thanks to our emphasis on embedding real-world learning within our courses. The content of our modules is developed in collaboration with healthcare bodies and leading industry organisations, and closely follows the latest research and Government policies. Our health and safety courses are informed by our accrediting body The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Outside of the core content of your course, you’ll benefit from a vibrant programme of events such as guest speakers, community lectures, workshops and seminars. These allow you to expand your skills and knowledge even further, and network with potential employers.

We know that working on real-world issues is the best way to develop employment-ready skills and so we encourage you to partner with local organisations on projects. This kind of partnership helps develop your skills and professional networks, and it helps the partner organisation as they have access to some of the best minds in academia and can benefit from the very latest research. Many postgraduate students go on to work with the organisations they partner with as soon as they graduate.

Choosing to study a course related to health and wellbeing at postgraduate level is a real investment in your future. You will expand your knowledge and skills, broaden your career prospects, and help make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of society.
