Description
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the world's leading crisis response agencies, providing life-saving assistance and supporting recovery and reconstruction for people affected by war and natural disasters. Active in public health, education, livelihoods, women's empowerment, youth development, and protection and promotion of rights, IRC assists people from harm to home.
IRC entered Nigeria in October 2012 in response to a widespread flood disaster. IRC’s Emergency Response Team, with local partner CISCOPE (Civil Society Coalition for Poverty Eradication), implemented a project to support livelihoods and improve WASH in Kogi State from February to May 2013. This was followed by a 3-month nutrition and food security program in the same location from October 2013 to January 2014. The IRC is now in the process of establishing long term presence in Nigeria.  An office has been established in Adamawa State, North East Nigeria and is providing critical humanitarian assistance to conflict affected people.

Scope of work
Uphold the principles of IRC, work towards the achievement of the project goals through effective lateral relations and team work.
Ensure understanding of roles; responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities. Build up an atmosphere of respect and trust within the project team. Build and maintain effective professional working relationships with local authorities and community members.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the EH/WaSH Manager in the full implementation of CLTS (community led total sanitation) methodologies in the project communities,
. Assist in the design and implementation of the hygiene promotion program and materials based on the outputs of the CLTS programmers’ methodologies
Work with other EH/WaSH staff to develop technical capacity, including development of in-house trainings for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Committees (WaSHComs), Community Volunteers (CVs) and other local partners.
Assist in the supervision and monitoring of volunteers involved in the project
Sensitize community about EH/WaSH project activities
Mobilize, interact and dialogue with individuals representing beneficiary households for the organization of community for development activities
Assist in the development of activities and implementation specially designed for Women and children for community engagement on EH/WaSH programs
Raise people's awareness of and the delivery of EH/WaSH services and through strengthen community participation for sustainability and self-reliance, Identification and reporting of population with Special needs and there vulnerabilities
Obtain community data when necessary for monitoring population numbers, EH/WASH facilities available and area of coverage in IRC programming area
Mobilization of communities should focus on building confidence, trust and respect, increasing knowledge base, and enabling community members to participate, and become more proactive with regard to their own health assessment of community status
Support community decision input and participation
Regular field visits to the target communities in the project areas will be an important part of this task
Understand and comply with IRC fundamental principles, in addition to assisting volunteers and other staff in understanding and complying with the principles.
Participate in any training workshops organized by the IRC to improve the knowledge of staff
Delivering any other responsibility assigned by the line manager
Qualifications & Essential Skills
B. Sc. /High National Diploma in Hydrogeology, Environmental Health, Community health with hand on experience in developing and adopting WASH technologies and designs.
Experience of assessing, reviewing and monitoring technical projects.
At least 2 years relevant experience in water and sanitation programs in low income contexts
Command of written English to produce technical documents and report in good standard
Good verbal communication skills in Hausa and English
Ability to maintain good working relationship with colleagues and partners
Commitment to IRC values and principles
Ability to critically review technical options
Accuracy and keen attention to details, in order to produce high quality documents and maintain good records
