The World Health Organisation (WHO) has given the assurance that the ebola virus disease (EVD) in the country could be contained.

It however said that would be achieved with the cooperation of the people and not just government action alone.

The WHO Country Director, Mr. Rui Vaz, gave the assurance Tuesday in Port Harcourt during a visit to Rivers State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Sampson Parker.

While stating that the WHO would give the necessary technical support in the fight against the ebola disease, Vaz expressed satisfaction with the efforts and commitment of Rivers State Government to control the spread of the disease.

The WHO country director said, "I will like to highlight that ebola can be contained and we are going to contain it; there is no doubt, but everything depends on all of us. It is not only the responsibility of the Ministry of Health. This is a cross-cutting issue, it’s an inter-sartorial response, it requires attention, and the critical matter is the leadership and ownership of the process.
