In furtherance of the project to designed to increase women’s access to  new technology (WANT) a one day training was conducted for Nurses and Midwives on Reproductive Health and Family Planning in Ovia North East LGA, Edo State. The training took place on the 27th June, 2014 at the main auditorium of the Women’s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC). A total of 36 midwives and nurses participated in the workshop which featured the following lectures:

. Overview of sexual and reproductive health and rights/ maternal mortality prevention- download the lecture by Dr Nicholas

. Unwanted pregnancy, unsafe abortion and women’s reproductive rights- why pregnancy may be unwanted, what is unsafe abortion and complications of unsafe abortion- download the lecture by Dr Ezeanochi

. Safe abortion- medical methods of termination, post abortion care and referral, pre and post abortion counselling- download the lecture by Dr Ezeanochie

. Family planning- relevance of family planning, population issues, misconceptions, methods of family planning and family planning commodities- download the lecture by Dr Imongan

. Community mobilization and participation- working with the community, importance of community participation, steps in community participation, village development committee- download the lecture by Dr Edena

The main objective of the training was to increase participants’ knowledge of family planning methods and medication for termination of pregnancy.

The training was led by the Program officer, Dr. Nicholas Ehikhale, and co-facilitated by Dr. Wilson Imongan (Maternal and Child Health specialist), Dr. Morris Edena (Family Medicine specialist) and Dr Michael Ezeanochie (Obstetrics & Gynaecology consultant). The Project is funded by the International Planned Parenthood Federation.

the participants were very satisfied with all aspect of the training and found it useful in many aspects and worth attending.

At the end of the training certificate of attendance was not given to the participants and a group photograph was taken.
