The Yobe State government is to allocate the just completed three-star hotel in Damaturu to the management of the newly built 200-bed capacity hospital to be used as accommodation for staff and students as part of plans to convert and upgrade the new hospital to a teaching hospital.
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam stated this yesterday during inspection visits to both the hotel and the hospital in Damaturu.
The governor said the idea for a teaching hospital was borne of his administration’s desire to provide quality tertiary medical care to the people, adding that the government is determined to do everything it takes to make the new hospital meet the standards of a teaching hospital.
Gaidam said equipment worth N2.5 billion is currently being installed in the hospital in the first phase of the drive to give it the equipment and facilities it needs to cater for needs of patients.
“I am impressed with the phase of completion work going on at both the hotel and the hospital from my last inspection visits. I want the contractors and supervising officials to step up efforts to ensure timely completion”, Gaidam said.
The governor also said the state government would support the Yobe State University (YSU) to establish a medical faculty by providing all the facilities and funding as well as meeting all the requirements of the National Universities Commission in that regard.
