ABOUT 450 rural communities in Jigawa will benefit from a maternal and child healthcare programme jointly packaged by the state government and UNICEF.
The acting Director-General, Gunduma Primary Healthcare System in the state, Alhaji Maigari Usman, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
Usman explained that UNICEF would provide comprehensive health package which include antenatal care, immunisation, treatment of ailments and referral services.
He said the services would be delivered to women and children beneficiaries on outreach basis.
“In our agreement, those communities to benefit must be hard to reach villages; women and children in every nook and cranny of these areas must be reached in this project,’’ he said.
According to him, the state government, on its part, will provide logistics, supervisory support as well as create enabling environment for the success of the programme.
Usman said that the project would commence before the end of 2015 and would last for two years.
The director-general also said that the state government would deploy necessary resources to sustain the project after the expiration of the contract.
