About 6,000 people are expected to benefit from a free medical care outreach programme organised by some Nigerians living in the United States of America under the aegis of the Mbano National Assembly (MNA).

The humanitarian medicare gesture, according to the organisers, which cost over N2 million, would provide surgical, ophthalmological, psychological and physiotherapy, among other health care services.

Speaking to newsmen at the opening ceremony of the medical mission, held at Mbano Joint Hospital, in Mbano Council of Imo State, the MNA President, Basil Njoku, said that the programme was borne out of the commitment of MNA members to help ameliorate health challenges of people in their community, as well as Nigerians.

Njoku said: “I could trace today’s event to the year 2000, when this organisation, Mbano National Assembly was formed. Since then, Mbano people in the United States have taken it as a commitment every year to take care of their people here at home. Our people say health is wealth”
