Eight persons have so far tested positive to Lassa Fever in Katsina State, the state Commissioner of Health, Mariyatu Bala Usman told Daily Trust yesterday.
Out of the new cases, two persons are linked directly to the earlier mortality death recorded from the corpse that was brought in from Kaduna for burial rites in Katsina. According to her, the affected are still held at the National Obstetric Fistula Centre at Babbar Ruga as more results are still being expected from samples taken. Shedding more light on it, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr Mustapha Kabir said that at present, no fewer than 34 primary contacts are in isolation and closely being monitored.
This is in addition to over 100 secondary contacts still under surveillance, he added.
Last week, the first case of Lassa fever was reported in the state when a middle-aged man tested positive following a contact with the corpse of his brother who died from the disease in Kaduna.
